The spectacle of deer in love in the Stelvio National Park
Every year between September and October, the Park renews one of the most thrilling natural phenomena, a mysterious and unforgettable wild call: the rutting of deer. Male deer echo this muffled roar throughout the valleys to ward off rival males and defend their harem of females. Enticing sounds, colors, and scents intertwine with vocal duels waged to gain supremacy over the female harem. By participating in excursions with Park experts, you can see the deer and witness, from a safe distance, a ritual challenge between two deer or antler-clashing battles. This excursion of medium difficulty (from approximately 6:00 am to 3:00 pm) takes you to mid-altitude areas where it's easier to spot and hear the rutting deer, even during the day. Park experts will show you the numerous tracks and explain the habits of this fascinating animal. With a little luck, you might even spot eagles circling the sky in search of prey. Packed lunch.
